Background of the Study
Community nurses play a critical role in promoting health and preventing diseases within the elderly population, particularly in rural areas where access to healthcare may be limited. In Sokoto State, the elderly face unique challenges, including limited healthcare access, lack of health education, and social isolation. Community nurses can bridge this gap by delivering health promotion activities that focus on disease prevention, healthy lifestyles, and managing existing conditions. These nurses are often the first point of contact for older adults in rural settings, and their role is vital in ensuring the elderly remain healthy and engaged in their communities (Usman & Dandago, 2023).
This study will investigate the role of community nurses in elderly health promotion in Sokoto State, examining how their interventions contribute to improving the health outcomes of older adults and identifying barriers to their effectiveness.
Statement of the Problem
While community nurses in Sokoto State are actively involved in elderly health promotion, challenges such as limited resources, inadequate training, and poor healthcare infrastructure may hinder their effectiveness. Additionally, the lack of structured health promotion programs targeting the elderly further exacerbates the issue. This study seeks to investigate the extent to which community nurses are able to promote health among elderly individuals and the factors that impact their role.
